- There's The Weapon You Hold, There's The Thing That You Hold It To, And The Thing You Hold Dear -

It has come to my attention that it's been a year and a day(figuratively) since I updated this thing.

So I'll give the rundown of the last two weeks in about thirty seconds (also figuratively).

Coles Notes Version:
-Went to Sunset Rubdown last Sunday, after having been epically ill the week before.
-Met Spencer Krug that day, and got him to sign my bag.
-Decided on that night that I love him more than all other artists combined, and would not mind in the least bearing his children. >.>

-Stayed awake for two days straight, trying to get things done by thursday.
-Actually spent Halloween painting Spartan king/queen/jack hierarchy with coloured gouache and hating my life
-Now have muscle chart and two type compositions due on monday and wednesday, respectively.
-Went to Modest Mouse last night and ended up second row again, somehow.
-They played "Doin the Cockroach". So much WIN.
-Some retarded girls kept mispronouncing the word "Dramamine" while yelling out the song request, thus making Calgary look like a bunch of hicks to an American band once more.
-Also at the show, we met up with the band that opened for Sunset Rubdown last sunday, who it turns out are well aquainted with the Krug family in general (who live in Medicine Hat).

*sings* MiniMiniMini Miiiini Wheats-DAMMIT!

>.>

Oh yah, check out the new Sunset Rubdown. Best album of the year(not figuratively), hands down. Mind you, I'm of coursed not biased at ALL. >.>

~Ju-chan^6

- If You're Not Sure Who Not To Believe, Who Has Better Reasons To Deceive? -

So. Built to Spill.

Envy me, all. Because the show was fricking incredible and amazing and reaffirms to me all the reasons why indie rock is worth all the sleepless nights, in the end.

...Okay, okay, I'll back up a bit and explain that last comment, I suppose...going to a show invariably means that I get five or so fewer hours to work on school stuffs over the weekend, which means I have to cram it all in somewhere...witness my astounding 72-hour wakefulness run last week. -_-;

Regardless, let me just say that Built to Spill was one of the most amazing shows I've seen in a long while. Yes, I know I say that about live shows a lot, and the truth is that I love live shows enough that they are all absolutely wonderful experiences. However, Built to Spill easily makes my top 10 of this year. Considering that whole 'Mariella went down to Georgia'-esque thing this summer, and that should roughly communicate to you just how amazing it was.

Every song that I could've wanted to hear, ever, was played. The sound was some of the best mixing I've heard at the Mac Hall Ballroom. Alex and I were front and centre for the entire thing. Attack in Black utterly owned as an opening act, and DAMN is their bassist ever pretty and probably my age. I got my bag signed by self-same bassist, as well as Dug from the mighty band themselves.

The best part? What could possibly trump all of that as the crowning achievement of an absolutely stellar evening, you might ask?

When they played "Goin' Against Your Mind". Seriously, everyone should hear that song played live at least once before they die. I just about lost it entirely, and even the totally e-d out chick forcing herself onto the barrier/rubbing herself all over Alex/flailing arms in people's faces couldn't ruin or dampen the awesomeness of that song in any capacity. I very nearly could hae joined her right then, actually.

Humorously, that same chick provided an addition to my WHYH end-of-the-year "best things overheard at a show in 2007" list.

Dug: "Anyways, we're going to play this song now...it's a Brian Eno cover."

Chick: *after having single-handedly ruined Canada's reputation to the band forever multiple times, reacting to the crowd's cheering* "Oh. I'm not from Calgary, so I don't know that."

...

Yes, indeed.

~Ju-chan^6

- Oh There's Values And Costs In The Wondering -

So. My bag was stolen out of my fifth floor studio today; inside was everything in the form of ID, credit & debit cards, UPass, $80.00 for art supplies, and my Ramones Vinyl prepayment proof receipt.

Also on the list of things taken: My discman, my cell phone, and Cursive's "The Ugly Organ" album, since it happened to be in the discman at that time.

Strangely, the douchebag that orchestrated this STUNNING display of human-as-scum-ety took out a bunch of things they considered to be not of monetary value, and left them at Bow Valley College in a small bag. (Thus the reason I know that it's theft; my student handbook was amongst these things, and my phone number therein...the security at that campus contacted us.) Things such as my FW acrylic Artist's Ink (praise the lord), the CD's I was carrying at the time (he or she obviously has shitty taste in music >.>), and my expired traveler's insurance from this summer.

What did they NOT leave with the other "not pawnable" items?

MY FRIGGING SKETCHBOOK!

Yes, ladies & gentlemen, that is the SECOND sketchbook I seem to have lost to theft in less than a year.

...

*screams in frustration, throws a chair through a window, and then proceeds to beat her head against the wall*

If I ever, and I mean EVER, find the person that did this, I will personally rip out their spine and take out their f**king soul. I don't care if I get charged for assault; this person has NEVER hurt as badly as they will if I get my hands around their petty little neck. I seriously promise you, they won't be ruining perfectly good air by breathing in and out much longer if I so much as get wind that it MIGHT be them.

Good news? Some.

-My project work was left untouched; this means I may still be able to make my monday deadline (at least partly)
-We managed to cancel/block just about all the cards, though there was one transaction made on my credit card before this. For a mere $16.00, that we can hopefully track down in order to help us figure out who it might be.
-Cancelling my cell phone, we managed to get three numbers that the idiot used my phone to call maybe a total of an hour after stealing the bag. This hopefully helps too.

-I have further been given proof of just how wonderful and awesome my friends are. Alex and Marcel stayed with my after school in order to look around and try to find it (when we thought it might still be misplaced). They came with me to the CTrain and offered to lend me money to get home; they also both tried phoning my cell and got through before the stupid thief turned it off (which is what clued me in first that it was theft in the first place). Alex lent me his cell to call home, came with me to the Security Office to fill out a report, and stayed the whole time just so that I could borrow his cell again afterwards.

Also, I don't think I've ever received so many hugs in my life. Everyone that heard had something positive and comforting to say, and most had hugs to offer as well. I've never loved my friends more than I do today.

...Now, what remains is seeing if I can get all the project handouts that were in the infamous sketchbook photocopied so that I'm not completely lost. -_-;

~Ju-chan^6

- Happiness By The Kilowatt -

So. The birthday report. *grins* This year was very different, but I've had an absolute blast, all-told. ^^

Part 1: Allie, Meg and I went to lunch on friday at the Mongolie Grill. Which was okay, though the place requires practice. ^^; We then went to the DQ next door and ate an entire Skor-flavoured Treatsa Pizza between the three of us. Which was yummy and made of deliciousness. We also had a good long talk about a lot of things, which was lovely. Later, went to Xposure wrap-up party at the MacHall Ballroom. and watched Hot Little Rocket, The Neckers, Jane Vain & The Dark Matter, Lions Tigers & Bears, and Tokyo Police Club rock it up. Which was awesome, of course XD. Talked with Dave from Tokyo Police Club afterwards, which was cool; he signed my show bag in pen, cause we couldn't find a sharpie. XD

Part 2: Met up with Alex (male) and Alexandra (female) down at Broken City, and discovered that they no longer serve sweet potato fries. ANGST! O_o I've also realized that I seem to make friends with people who have Alex-derived names. -_-; After eating candied plantains instead, we went to Emmedia to watch The Pants Situation; we almost didn't get in, since attendance was at capacity+. Our dejected expressions seemed to tug on some heartstrings, though, because the door guys decided to let us in anyways as the absolute last people, telling us that we just couldn't re-enter if we left. Sudden Infant was great, though not as awesome as when they played the Marquee because the venue was the smallest ever, and there was only floor-space, no stage. So I couldn't really see. And it ewas hot. Regardless, though, The Pants Situation owned, making me even sadder that they won't be playing again. -_-;

They also played Secret Island Song at the very end, which made me very happy. ^^

Part 3: Had to work on my birthday, which sucked, but Bonnie and Eric went out and bought me a cake and a case of Coke with store money. XD I got to take it with me, too. Afterwards, met up with Alex, Matt, Sevvie, and her friend Ashley at the Unicorn, then headed over to Ben's for my get-together party. Which was awesomely fun; everyone except Marcel (who was camping with family) managed to make it; we basically hung out, listened to music, watched Metalocalypse, and "opened" presies (just one, actually, since at this point gifts are very much secondary...I DID get an awful lot of show tickets this year, though. XD).

The stereotypes dressed up as were as follows: villain (me), anime geek (Allie), hobo (Meg), Barbie (Alexandra), b-boy/whigro (Ben), Metalhead (Matt, by accident XD), Asian Gang (Josiah, Lionel, and Ian...ALSO by accident XD), and stereo type (Alex). The last one, especially, was awesomely clever...he went as Sony. *grins*

Show tickets/promise of tickets received are: Wilco (Phil), Tokyo Police Club (my mom), Art Brut (Lucas), All That Remains (Alexandra), and New Pornographers (Alex).

*sighs* Now, of course, it's back to work as the new school year starts tomorrow...I'm enjoying my last day by lazing around, playing bass, playing videogames, watching movies, and otherwise doing all I know I won't be able to do once we're back in it. XD

~Ju-chan^6

****Attention!!! Show warning!****

The Pants Situation are playing their final show before calling it quits on Saturday, September 1st at EMMEDIA ( 351 - 11 Ave. SW. Suite #203). Cost is $5; they're playing with Sudden Infant Dance Syndrome for the latter band's CD release.

For those of you who don't know, The Pants Situation are one of the most fun, danceable, lovely bands Calgary has ever produced, and it's a sad sad thing to lose them to the idea of "growing up" and "moving on"...it's been fun. *sighs*

If you're down on 17th or anywhere you can get your hands on it, check out the latest issue of BeatRoute to read a lovely piece written about them, as well as some excellent features on Secret Broadcast, Wilco, and a bunch of others.

...

Also, seeing as my birthday is September 2nd, it'd be cool to see some of you guys there, even if you're not really into indie. XD

Otherwise...I'm not sure about birthday plans. O_o I've been told that, being the long weekend, I should definitely hold something, but I'm really not sure what might be appropriate, affordable, and fun for all involved, if anything. ^^;

Ideas?
- Oh, Mercer Is A Merchant, A Policy Merchant. He Calls Himself Urgent! -

Bought and read all of Eclipse last night. -_-;;; I...need to learn restraint.

*WARNING* Major pettiness and personal prejudices ahead!!!!!! O_o

I just...don't know if I like what she's done to the characters' relationships (and Bella's personality) in the book. I found myself hating Jacob, REALLY hating him, and feeling physically ill towards the end of the thing (Bella's whole "realization" made me cringe...I couldn't even read some of the Jacob-related/centric passages). Even though Bella and Edward end up together, somehow it feels different, almost tainted, and I find myself almost wishing none of any of it had happened and I could just go back to Twilight and the end of New Moon.

Also...WTH!? The whole POINT is that we were all anxious to see what would happen with the transformation, the wedding, etc. Does this mean I have to wait another year to get details? >.>

...on the positive end: I LOVED the "engagement" scene, and some of the new conversations where even the thought of Jacob is thankfully absent just about made me swoon. I guess I wish we could have all that without all the...rest. I also liked finding out about Jasper and Rosalie's pasts.

So, in the end, I really don't know how I feel about it. *cries* Damn. Damn damn damn. Xpppp

*sighs* Now I have to wait a whole other year for Breaking Dawn to come out. Xp Damnit.

~Ju-chan^6

- And Now The Night Sails In The Morning, With His Quotas And His Bales -

Yes, I have returned from what is possibly the highest point of my life thus far. Victoriously, even.

There are stories, oh yes, but so many that even the review I just posted on WHYH seems woefully sparse in details. Anyone with questions may direct them to me in person. XD

Otherwise, back down to business...there is a labtop to be acquired for school, and Eclipse to be bought, bass to play, t-shirts to be worn (sorry, I had to make ONE reference, at least Xp), and movies to watch...the last I started on by going with Alex to the Uptown theatre yesterday to catch Danny Boyle's movie Sunshine, which was actually great despite the outlandish concept. It also proved to me that there must always be an element of horror in his films, whether it's the creepy baby in Trainspotting or the infected peoples in 28 Days Later.

Back to the list, there's drawing to be done as well, and the siren's call of eBay vinyl shopping to be resisted...

Oh, and lots, LOTS of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 to watch.

August is going to be just as busy as July was, looks like. XD

~Ju-chan^6

P.S: ANYONE interested in going with me to Tokyo Police Club August 31st? Anyone? I'd ask Alex, but I already convinced him to shell out moneys for Built to Spill...O_o

- Snapshot (Yoinked From Alliekins) -

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
On my thumb, right before the web between it and my pointer finger; battlescar from my guinea pig's feral days. ^^;

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Raphael's Madonna & Child (the one with the famous cherubs). All my Nirvana posters have yet to be re-hung.

3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
Nope, I sleep like the dead. XD

4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Alternative (indie rock, mostly, with large subsections of punk, hardcore, metal, electro, and no-wave)

5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
Not a clue

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
To know what I want, I guess. And the courage to go for it 100%.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
Karate.

8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
My Daydream Nation original pressing vinyl. I guess, my rock jacket and my bass, as well.

9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
I don't measure.

10. DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
Not due to spaces. More due to fast-talking people or too much warmth and noise.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
Not really. Only, maybe, if I'm afraid a jet engine will fall through the roof of my room. >.>

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
probably my dad. He's the one person what can make me so angry I cry. ^^;

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Hmm...no real preferences, though I'm not a real fan of redheads *shrugs*

15. WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF BEING PROPOSED TO AT?
I don't have much of an imagination in this department, I guess. ^^;

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
Neither. Green Tea is my poison of choice.

17. FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
Vegetables

18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Mominori

20. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
...Why...? >.>

21. WHAT WAS THE MOST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
My Seattle trip last summer. *evangelical*

22. DO YOU LIKE ANYBODY?
Kinda-sorta...but there's not really anyone that stands out as being the kind of painful-hardcore versions of the past. Maybe I'm learning. ^^

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
Praise Allah, no.

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
Goodwill. XD In actuality, Tripp NYC and Fairy Gothmother

26. DO YOU HAVE A PET RIGHT NOW?
My kitty-baby. XD

27. WHAT KIND IS IT?
A beautiful, sweet, loving, warm, and incredible Selkirk-Rex, with siamese colouring

28. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
Hopefully not by choice, but you don't choose who you love, right? Also, I would hope that it would affect their decision to leave. ^^;

29. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU:
Through a combination of words and actions. If you don't act on your words, then you can't be trusted to mean them. Also, actions without the expression to clear up ambiguous meaning can be ignored too easily, especially by oblivious people like me. XD

30. SAY A NUMBER FROM ONE TO A HUNDRED:
72

31. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
*Is a proud member of the Dread Sisterhood of the Brunettes*

32. WHAT IS THE ONE NUMBER YOU CALL MOST OFTEN?
Home

34. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF YOUR COUNTRY?
Yes. U.S. and South America only, though (so far, anyway ^^)

35. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
Must I name them? -_-; Okay, fine. I have a sweet-tooth of incredible proportions. Also, I am sometimes hit with strange bouts of inconfidence, impatience towards stupidity, and difficulty trusting people emotionally.

36. MET ANYONE FAMOUS?
Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth (well, famous to the right crowd ^^; ). Also, a variety of other musicians, though most are, once again, only famous to a select crowd of people.

37. FIRST JOB?
Clothing retail. IN HELL! >.>

38. EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
When I was young. Then I remember dialing 911 and being frightened off prank calling forever. ^^;

41. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Listening to music and waiting for a phone call.

40. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
Nope

42. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST?
Do strange, reverse-compliments about my height count? Otherwise, it's the standard compliments about my artistic abilities.

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
The security of an existence free of student loans. I.e: I guess the standard "win the lottery" thing applies, here

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT?
Maximum two. And they will have odd, kick-ass names. (No doubt they will hate me for it on the playground, but whatever XD)

46. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Not that I know of.

47. DO YOU WISH ON STARS?
Only if I remember to

49. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?
A/G.

50. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Hm...well...if I HAD handwriting...if you're asking whether I like my writing, then not really. It's a strange blend between handwriting and printing, also fondly titled "Chicken Knots" >.>

51. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
None, really. I rather like my sandwiches without it

52. ANY BAD HABITS?
Oh, thousands, probably.

54. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Only if I was cool as another person, I guess. XD

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
I'd like to say no, and I don't think they affect your ability to affect the world in positive and worthy ways. However, the fact remains that they do affect the way you're treated in everyday life. Regardless, I don't wear makeup (and if I did, it'd be less as a looks-improving measure and more of just another avenue for fun personal expression, like hair colour and tattoos. XD)

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER?
Unhealily. Also, at shows, which I suppose partly explains why I go to them so much, other than the kick-a** live music.

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
The rag doll my mom made for me when I was three. That, or paper and crayons.

61. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
a lot

63. DO YOU USE SARCASM?
So often that people can't tell if I'm using it or not anymore. ^^;

64. MASHED POTATOES OR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
Mac & cheese, though I'm not really a fan of either

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
Intelligent, confident, loyal, kind, passionate...the usual. Also, it'd be nice if they had good or compatible taste in music/books/movies, and if not some measure of artistic talent, at least an understanding of why it might be important for me. ^^;

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
Ju-chan, Chibi, Lali, Mari, Middley-Mole (as a product of being the middle child and, according to my oh-so-witty siblings, completely incapable of going out in sunlight >.>)

68. WHATS YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
At the moment, Mystery Science Theatre 3000

70. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Lychee

71. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?
Yep ^^, if barely XD

72. DO YOU HAVE A COMPUTER IN YOUR ROOM?
nope

73. Plans for tonight?
Folk Fest

74. WHATS THE FASTEST YOU HAVE GONE IN A CAR?
Too fast, as a product of my south american blood and the fact that my brother and dad have it too. -_-;;;

75. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
That'd be cool XD

76. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
Sonic Youth - "Sister" (album)

77. LAST THING YOU DRANK?
Water.

78. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO OR TEXTED ON THE PHONE?
Alex

79. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE IN THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Hair, then eyes. ^^;;;

81. FAVORITE THING TO HATE?
Fascism. Also, soulless, corporate (and therefore bad) music

82. FAVORITE MONTH OF THE YEAR?
July, October

83. FAVORITE COUNTRY?
Canada

84. CANDY?
Mentos Green Apple, and Ice Breaker Sours (Chocolate is beyond mere candy, and therefore does not count)

85. FAVORITE VACATION?
Anything music-related. Place-wise, Seattle.

86. FAVORITE EYE COLOR?
Green

87. FAVORITE SHOES?
My black converse high-tops. At least, while I could still wear them...T-T

88. FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE?
Not a fan of fast food. At the most, Thai/Sushi express

89. FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
La Chaumiere

90. DO YOU LIKE SUSHI?
*see question 88*

91. LAST THING YOU WATCHED?
Hellraiser

92. FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR?
October 31st

93. PLAY ANY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS?
Bass, piano, recorder, vocal (not very well >.>)

94. REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT?
Socialist. XD

95. KISSES OR HUGS?
hugs, definitely

96. RELATIONSHIPS OR ONE NIGHT STANDS?
Relationships. One Night Stands are for people dying to contract and STD

97. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT?
Tithe, by Holly Black

99. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
Tithe, by Holly Black (I WAS saving it for the plane trip...for all of a few minutes. >.> I finished it at two in the morning. -_-; )

100. DESCRIBE YOUR LOVE LIFE?
Confusing, yet basically very casual at the moment

- One Of These Days You'll Break Me Of Many Things-

So.

Maybe I'll write a full Deftones review on WHYH when I can get, like, twenty seconds away from the hmmmmv.

In the meantime, let me give the point-form version of sunday:

-The opening bands did a wicked job of getting everyone hyped, even if Die Mannequin's vocals got mixed criminally low.
-...Such a good job, in fact, that people started chanting for Deftones before the second band was off the stage. Kinda rude. >.>
-From First To Last made me want to mosh, even if their name implies screamo origins...that is, until the mosh opened up, and I realised that just about everyone in the front where we were was male, tall, and built like a viking.
-Chino is God
-headbanging still gives me neck muscle fatigue
-Chino is God
-They played an almost-perfect setlist, minus only "Needles & Pins" and "Minerva".
-They even played "Passenger" and "Digital Bath", don't ask me how
-The fact that Chino sang Maynard's part of "Passenger", as well as his own, further justifies that HE IS GOD
-Die Mannequin's drummer, Pat, signed my Communist bag afterwards (it was too hot for the jacket), whereupon he complimented my Sonic Youth shirt, supplementing that they're actually one of his favourite bands.
-...did I mention he was incredibly pretty, and destroyed his kit at the end of their set, thereby solidifyig himself in my esteem as "absolutely awesome"? No? Well, I guess I did now. >.>
-CHINO IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \m/

>.>

Alexandra's friend Amir got to meet them, and got a drumstick and a guitar pick. I don't actually know Amir, but have decided that I hate him beyond all shadow of reason. >_<

~Ju-chan^6

- The Funny Thing About You Is You Remembered To Leave it Behind -

***ATTENTION!!!*** people interested in seeing Final Fantasy at Folk Fest!

Though our dear Owen is doing several sessions on Saturday and Sunday during the day...those of us headed off for distant locations in the time very soon after can probably only make it to one day. As such, Final Fantasy is playing the Sunterra Evening Stage on Friday (6:00 - 8:30) or concerting at the Conoco Philips Stage at 4:30 on Sunday.

So...I guess the question here is, which day is better for everyone? Friday has the added benefit of also having Hawksley Workman and Neko Case playing the mainstage afterwards, whereas Sunday = Sarah Slean and Don McLean.

The sooner we can figure out a)who's all going, b)when and c)get tickets, the better.

~Ju-chan^6

P.S: For those who haven't heard the sound of angels live, Dallas Green is playing the mainstage Thursday..GOOOOO!!!!

- Purloined From Allie (Ha Ha Ha...Loin) -

Why? To distract from the fact that 2007 has been a wholesale slaughter of people I know so far. And because I can. B*tches.

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool... its rather interesting!

Opening Credits:-----> ["Postcards From italy" - Beirut] (Apparently I'm already a jaded, nostalgic globetrotter at the beginning of this film O_o)
Waking Up:----> ["What Happened To You?" - The Offspring] (Further with this nostalgic, yet displeased theme...I'm beginning to think Winamp has issues with my lifestyle choices, even if the song IS, basically, ska. >.>)
First Day At School:----> ["Cecil's Bells" - Sunset Rubdown] (Don't ask me to explain...apparently, I live in a technopop basement- electro-keyboard world...OF THE FUTURE! O_o)
Falling In Love:---> ["Cold Front (Bart Claessen Remix)" - Above & Beyond] (Despite all my hopes, wishes, dreams, and according to my worst nightmares, it appears I will find myself entering a nightclub once again in my lifespan. DAMN.)
Fight Song:----> ["Beach Side Property" - Modest Mouse] (...Not the first thing that jumps to mind when I think of kicking a**, but who am I to argue with a bit of mechanized software? >.>)
Breaking Up:----> ["Machine" - The YeahYeahYeahs] (I gather it wasn't pretty thing. That or he was a robot...OF THE FUTURE! O_o)
Life:----> ["Something Against You" - Pixies] (...And thus, the meaning of my life is validated by the accompanying sound of the ultimate indie band in their avant-noise, revolutionary best. hardcore.)
Mental Breakdown:---> ["Nimbus" - Above & Beyond] (Yes, this works. Because I would have to be losing my mind to willingly listen to a seven-minute trance song all the way through)
Driving:---> ["So Divided" - ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead] (I guess I don't drive very fast. That or I'm too busy watching the passing lamp posts in a fit of deep introspection....OHNOES!EYESONTHEROAD!- *crashboomscreech* O_o)
Getting back together:---> ["Unfair" - Pavement] (In this case, I will hazard that I did not in fact get back together, but found someone new. Someone that doesn't hang around in the cesspool of all evil known as a discotheque. >.>)
Wedding:---> ["I Like Dot Dot Dot" - Frog Eyes] (Weirdest. Wedding. Ever. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the displaced WHYH clowns on flaming mini-bikes were present in full force)
Birth of Child:----> ["Beware" - Deftones] ("You should know..." that I guess my child is the Antichrist after all)
Divorce:-----> ["Snake's Got A Leg III" - Sunset Rubdown] (It becomes evident that the child got his evil tendencies from somewhere...>.>)
Final Battle:----> ["2 Hookers and an Eightball" - Mindless Self Indulgence] (Frantic enough...though I just can't see the most epic battle in my life movie being over something so unhealthy)
Death Scene:----> ["Dark Ages" - Pavement] (Holy crap, it actually fits. Thus proving that my life film is one of those "indie film" affairs)
End Credits:----> ["Self Esteem" - The Offspring] (Nevermind. This movie is obviously SLCPunk! part II >.>)

Apparently, this is what happens when I don't read Pitchfork's news section for a month.

.....

Excuse me while I go off and squee into a pillow for a few hours. >.>

Also, the 'Fork seems to have forgotten all about it's tendency to rate Frog Eyes albums criminally low, and has scored Tears of the Valedictorian at a stellar and much-deserved 8.5.

Now, all I need is to acquire Spencer Krug's signature on my rock jacket, and I can die happy.

...If the waiting for Random Spirit Lovers, Eclipse, Mississippi Jack, and Lollapalooza doesn't kill me first. >.>

~Ju-chan^6

Jeepers, things have been busy lately.

What with the grad festivities last weekend, Azeda Booth/Frog Eyes, and working just about every day this week except monday and friday, it feels like I've been in high gear the whole time.

Events of note: went with Alexandra to T&T Market thursday after work to buy Asian junk food. After which I have further solidified my belief that the Asians make the best junk food in the world.

That, and the bakery at T&T is quite possibly the greatest food-related place minus La Chaumiere ever. O_o Seriously. They have Creme Caramel in convenient disposable cups. *cries tears of happiness*

Yesterday, went with Alexandra, Logan, Maddi, and...a hell of a lot of old Vincent/Francis people to a show at the Varsity Community Centre; we were originally there to support Logan's band, but we ended up catching Brett Heilman's band Lithica as well. And holy crap, they actually played a really good set. O_o Additionally, caught acts by War God, Norrath, and Dark Forest.

I left a bit earlier, though, to meet Alex downtown at Bottlescrew Bill's, which is a pretty nifty place. Despite the fact that I'm not much of a drinker, I find anyplace that boasts a selection of 80 different international beers interesting. We hung out til 1:00-ish, then headed over to Broken City only to discover that the show playing was a ticketed and sold-out event; in the end, we settled next door at the AmsterDAM Rhino, where ACAD-Terry works.^^ I got home at about 3:00.

And had to get up for work at 8:00. -_-; Surprisingly, I have a feeling that ACAD has trained me to no longer feel sleep depravation. O_o

Plans next week: work like a dog again (minus monday and friday), get paid, sleep, maybe draw. And finally get around to updating WHYH. >.>

XD

~Ju-chan^6

- What Is A City Without Lines? -

Another year, another Otafest gone...for some reason, this year seems to have flown by faster than any other. ^^; Even if the organization overall this year for Artist Alley WAS a little scatter-brained, well. ^^ Everything worked itself out in the end.

And I think I broke my record. If I remember correctly, counting all the groups and last-minute sketches...I drew about 41 people total. O_o Uwaa.

Also, I'm more optimistic than I have been for a long time about my art. Yes, there's still a LOT of room for improvement...but I've come to a few realizations, aided by the events of the 'con. Things that people have been saying for years, but I never really took their word for it...I think it's something I had to arrive at on my own.

One of these: People are actually willing to pay for my art. O_o Strange. I KNOW it seems obvious to others, but I guess I've always been shy about charging for it and promoting myself aggressively because I've always been painfully aware of the things that could be better. ^^;

Furthermore...almost all my anxiousness about Second Year is pretty much gone. The odds aren't looking stellar ATM, but I'm...actually okay with that. After this weekend, especially, I know I have what it takes to do what I want to, whether through ACAD or on my own; whether it's this year or the next, I KNOW I can get in and do well. ^^

Also, I think I need to start thinking about investing seriously...getting a computer specifically for art/ a tablet/ even just buying a good printer for making prints of work. We'll see. ^^

Also, apparently, I need business cards. O_o I had a few people ask this weekend, actually, even people I hadn't drawn, but had just seen my work. THAT was surprising, considering just how many good artists selling prints/doing commissions there were this year; you'd think one artist working the sketch drive table would get lost in all that. ^^;;;;;;;

~Ju-chan^6
